Service: War of 1812 Enlssited as Private at Victor, NY in 1813. Capt. Jirah Rewley, Co.B.,105th Infantry, the 4th Regiment of Infantry under Col. Samuel Blakeslee. engaged in the fought British troops at Black Rock on the night of Dec.20 and morning of dec.30. while in this action he received a made by a musetball slightly fracturing the upper end of the left arm bone and entirely severing the muscles. he was completely disabled from further service. For the rest of his life he was unable to raise his arm to a level with his shoulder or have backward movement. He was disables from doing laborous employment and hindered in his farm work. He was discharged from the service Jan 6, 1814. Pay for his short service was $3.87. On Sept. 28, 1850, the military bounty Land Act was passed and John received 160 acres of land for his service in the War of 1812. It was issued to John on Feb. 21, 1856 - land warrent #15902.
